Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of websites do you build?

I specialize in small business (including e-commerce), and personal (artist, author, portfolio) websites.

I am currently not taking contracts for large business and enterprise projects.

What is your hourly rate?

I do not charge an hourly rate. Instead, I charge by functionality. The cost of a website ranges between $5,700 to as low as $500, with the total price contingent on the type and number of "extras." Price depends on client needs, but is very competitive. Please inquire for more information.

I can't afford a website. Can we barter? Do you offer discounts?

Sorry, no.

What are your thoughts on user experience?

My goal is to provide the user with the best experience possible. Sometimes, this goal comes in conflict with the client's wishes. When this happens, I do my best to explain why pursuing a specific feature, while perhaps tempting in theory, is not in the client's long-term best interest.

For example, I will not create automatic popups. Not only do popups irritate the user, increasing the bounce rate, but they also go unnoticed by tech-savvy users who have installed popup blockers. Similarly, I will not embed videos with autoplay.

I already have a site on Squarespace. Can you help build it for me? Will you offer advice on the design?

I currently do not offer consulting services, nor do I build websites using "drag-and-drop" applications like Squarespace, Wix, or Weebly. However, if you're interested in having me build you a website on a more sophisticated platform (WordPress or Ruby on Rails, for instance), I'd be happy to help!
